JITA – In a move that has left the diplomatic corps of New Eden clutching their wallets and their jump fuel, Fenris Creations (formerly CCP Games) has rolled out the “Cradle of War” major update, a patch best summarized as “what if infrastructure had a battery percentage?”
The headline feature is a change to Ansiblex jump bridges, the backbone of alliance logistics, which now run on capacitor. According to the patch notes, bridge operators are expected to “charge them nightly, just like your phone.” In practice, this means that a coalition’s ability to move fleets across ten regions now depends on whether someone remembered to plug in the space extension cord.
“We were in the middle of a summit to discuss border disputes when the Ansiblex just… shut off,” said a diplomat from a nameless nullsec alliance, speaking on condition of anonymity because his coalition leader still thinks it was sabotage. “One minute we’re negotiating ore rights, the next we’re staring at a loading screen and a ‘please charge your bridge’ notification. Our head of state thought it was a metaphor.”
The situation escalated when a second diplomat, reportedly running an older model of bridge firmware, was informed that his unit was “not supported” and would no longer receive capacitor updates. A class-action petition has since been filed with CONCORD, though legal experts note that CONCORD’s jurisdiction extends to licensing violations, not whether Fenris Creations remembered to include a charging cable.
“This is a quality-of-life improvement,” said a Fenris Creations spokesperson in a prepared statement. “Players have long complained that Ansiblex bridges were too reliable. We’re bringing them in line with modern consumer expectations.”
Market analysts report a 400% spike in capacitor booster sales and a run on portable power cells. Meanwhile, the first Ansiblex to run out of juice mid-jump has already been memorialized with a player-owned structure named “BRIDGE DIED LOL,” which is currently the most-bookmarked location in its region.
“I’m not mad, I’m just impressed,” said a freighter pilot who watched his convoy scatter across three systems because the bridge went into low-power mode. “I didn’t think you could make jump bridges worse, but here we are. My ship’s computer just asked me if I wanted to enable battery saver. In space. In a spaceship.”
Fenris Creations has not yet confirmed whether future updates will add wireless charging or a subscription tier for “premium capacitor throughput.”
