Fenris Creations Patches Tournament Day, Competitors Suddenly Very Interested In Bug Reports
REYKJAVIK, ICELAND — Fenris Creations, the Icelandic studio behind the famously lawless space sandbox EVE Online, released patch 24.01 on Friday morning, the same day Alliance Tournament XXII Finals kicked off, a timing decision described by competitors as either “deeply cynical” or “exactly what we expected.”
The patch arrived at 09:00 UTC, roughly two hours before the first match, and included changes to weapons telemetry that a significant portion of the competitive scene had not tested. “We had no idea the autocannons were different,” said Team Logi captain Helena Stark. “We found out when we loaded into the bracket.”
Online betting markets, which typically grade odds on pilot skill and fleet composition, briefly added a “client desync” variable to their projections. Sources say it did not move the needle on any favorites.
Fenris Creations confirmed the patch had been in testing on Singularity for eleven days and said server conditions were “nominal.”
New High-Sec Safe Room Arrives To Universal Relief, Immediate Griefing Ideas
After years of capsuleers demanding a space where new players could exist without being explosively removed from the game, Fenris Creations on Thursday shipped a single rectangular safe zone in the middle of Osmon, installed a door, and called the problem solved.
The room is called CONCORD Enclaves. Players who enter through the door are protected by a new rule: nobody gets shot there. It has been described by community members as either a “revolutionary step for player retention” or “a room with worse etiquette than Jita 4-4.”
“Finally, a place in EVE where I can stand safely and watch other players do things I cannot afford to do,” said one reddit user. A thread titled “creative uses for the 10-meter perimeter outside the Enclaves door” reached 340 upvotes by Friday morning. One poster suggested placing a wallet depot there. Another proposed an ammunition stand. A third asked if a cargo scanner could be aimed through the door frame from a specific angle. Fenris Creations has not responded to requests for comment on the angle question.
The studio said in a dev blog that the Enclaves were “the result of years of listening to the community,” and noted the door had always existed. Players quickly observed that in fourteen prior patches, the door had never been clearly labeled as a door that led somewhere safe.
Streamers Devastated As Giveaway Cooldown Forces Actual Content Between PLEX Drops
Fenris Creations updated its content creator policy on Wednesday, instituting a hard limit of one promotional giveaway per 60-minute rolling window across all channels licensed under the EVE Online partner program.
The change was met with visible distress from creators who had been chaining four PLEX giveaways back-to-back while reading chat in a flat tone. “What am I supposed to do between drops, actually play the game?” said one partner with 40,000 followers. “I have a family and I don’t even own a ship.”
The new rule effectively mandates that creators stream for at least sixty consecutive minutes without a PLEX interruption. Several top partners have already announced they will comply, with at least one citing a desire to “not get decayed off the partner list.”
Fenris Creations said the cooldown was introduced to “maintain the integrity of promotional windows and reduce participant fatigue.” Critics online noted that participant fatigue had been their problem, not an EVE problem.
The Alliance Tournament XXII Finals conclude Sunday. Fenris Creations confirmed the door has always been there and asked that concerned parties please stop filing support tickets about the angle question.
