JITA — CONCORD issued its highly anticipated Version 24.01 patch notes this week, running a full fourteen pages and generating what one analyst called 'the most significant document in New Eden since the Yulai Accords, if the Yulai Accords had been written by someone who really hated miners.'
The first thirteen pages consist entirely of mining-related adjustments, including yield reductions, cycle time increases, drone bandwidth restrictions, and a new footnote on page nine clarifying that 'the concept of ore itself remains under review.'
The sole non-mining change appears on page fourteen, paragraph three, and buffs the Reaper-class rookie ship's capacitor by 5%.
'We were very excited about that Reaper buff,' said fictional capsuleer Grak Vornin, CEO of the one-man corporation Vornin Heavy Industries. 'Then I realized I don't own a Reaper. Or know what a Reaper is. But it's nice that someone's having a good week.'
CONCORD spokesperson Eleni Torvald defended the document's structure in a prepared statement, explaining that 'mining balance is a complex, multifaceted issue requiring detailed attention,' and adding that 'the Reaper adjustment was included to demonstrate our commitment to diverse playstyles.'
The patch notes also introduced a formatting innovation: every mining nerf is printed in bold, while the Reaper buff appears in 8-point italic font at the bottom of the final page, adjacent to a toner cartridge alignment test.
Fictional miner and self-described 'rock enthusiast' Dessa Malone of corp Deep Core Whining issued a blistering response. 'I read the first six pages and blacked out,' she said. 'When I woke up, my Hulk was already in a hangar and my CEO had filed for emotional damages.'
The document has already sparked its first war. The fictional alliance Greater Asteroid Defense Initiative formally declared hostilities against the equally fictional alliance The Patch Note Formatting Review Board after a typo on page seven shifted a critical balance line by one paragraph, causing both sides to interpret the nerf as applying to entirely different ships. Neither side has fired a shot, but diplomatic channels remain flooded with competing PDF annotations.
'We're fighting this war entirely in footnotes,' said GADI diplomat Yorren Svek, a fictional capsuleer who requested anonymity despite being quoted directly. 'Page seven, footnote twelve, clearly states the nerf applies to Exhumers. Their reading of footnote fourteen-b suggests barges. We're prepared to escalate to endnotes if necessary.'
CCP did not respond to requests for comment, though sources close to the studio confirmed that senior developers have been advised to avoid miners in the Jita 4-4 food court until 'things settle down.'
The Reaper buff is scheduled to go live next Tuesday. Nobody is expected to notice.
